§ 15.32.080. Grounding

Latest version.
  • Every antenna or mast shall be solidly grounded for protection against lightning discharge, using a ground conductor not smaller than number six SWG copper, connected with an approved ground clamp to the water system on the premises if available, or to a one-half inch by eight feet copperweld ground rod or its equivalent. Where a ground rod is used, it shall be located a minimum of two feet from any foundation or other underground structure, and shall be driven vertically downward until the top is a minimum of six inches below the surface of the ground. The ground conductor leading from the house or other supporting structure shall be buried to a depth of nine inches to the point of contact on rod. Aluminum wire may not be used as a grounding conductor.

Where the above-described grounding is impractical, the electrical inspector shall authorize an alternate. All grounds, including those of lightning attesters, lightning rods and the electrical system on the premises, shall be bonded together.
