§ 15.04.080. Condemnation of unsafe buildings

  • When buildings are found to be structurally unsafe or dangerous in the event of fire or a panic therein, the building inspector shall notify the owner, agent, lessee or occupant, and such owner, agent, lessee or occupant shall, within ten days after receipt of such written notice from the building inspector, begin the work necessary to make such building safe and secure, and diligently prosecute the same until the condition of the building meets with the approval of the building inspector. Where immediate action is deemed necessary, the building inspector may cause the building or structure to be taken down or repaired without delay, the costs to become a lien against such building or structure in the amount of the certified bills of all expense incurred by the governing body in the taking down or repairing of such structure. The building inspector shall affix a notice of the dangerous character of such building or structure near the main entrance.
