§ 12.04.060. Sidewalk specifications

  • Hereafter all sidewalks shall be of single course construction and shall be constructed and laid in accordance with the specifications as follows:

    A. All sidewalks constructed in the city shall be constructed of concrete or other approved materials; and except where otherwise provided, all sidewalks adjacent to residence lots shall be four feet in width, exclusive of the support curb.

    B. The walk shall be four inches thick, except that at alleys it shall be six inches thick.

    C. Sidewalks shall be finished with a fine broom finish.

    D. The walk shall be cut into separate rectangular slabs not greater than six feet on any one side. The surface edges of each slab shall be rounded to a one-fourth inch radius.

    E. Expansion joints shall extend from the surface to the subgrade and shall be at right angles to the sidewalk surface, and completely filled with compressible material. A one-half inch expansion joint shall be made across the walk, at approximately fifty (50) foot intervals. At all places where the walk intersects a curbline or another walk, one-inch expansion joints shall be made.
